Enjoy The Tour De France 2027 in Cumbria at the Cumbria Grand
July 2027 promises to be a very exciting time for everyone at the Cumbria Grand as the world’s most iconic cycling race, the Tour De France, rolls through the breathtaking landscapes in Cumbria as part of the 2027 Grand Départ event.
When does the Tour De France start and what is the Grand Départ?
The 114th edition of the Tour De France runs over 23 days from Friday 2nd July 2027, finishing up on Sunday, 25th July 2027. The Grand Départ is the official kick off event and starting location for the tour and for the first time ever in 2027, the first three stages of the tour will run through Scotland, England & Wales. This is due to the growing international popularity of the Tour De France.
Stage 1 on Friday 2nd July, begins in Edinburgh, passing through Midlothian and the Scottish Borders before finishing up at Carlisle Castle. Stage 2, on Saturday 3rd July, begins in the Lake District National Park, here in Cumbria, and travels through a number of beautiful spots such as Windermere, which are only a short drive away from our Hotel. The 3rd and final UK stop on Sunday 4th July, picks up from Welshpool, ending with a challenging leg in Cardiff.
Riders will then travel via plane to France, where the full tour picks back up.
